The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sought the finance ministry’s approval for banning the promoters of the new telecom licensees from pledging their shares to raise capital during the three-year lock-in period.

The communications and IT ministry has also sought the finance ministry’s opinion on whether this ban can be imposed retrospectively in case some of the promoters have already pledged their shares.
