The defence forces are likely to release 15 MHz of spectrum for 2G and 3G mobile services after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed between the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The GoM headed by the external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee decided that the defence forces would vacate 10 MHz of spectrum for 3G services and 5 MHz for 2G services once the MoU is finalised. However, DoT officials state that there is still some work to be done to reach the MoU signing stage.
