The communications and IT ministry has proposed to lower mobile termination charges further. In early 2009, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had reduced domestic termination charges by 33 per cent from Re 0.30 to Re 0.20 per minute. Any further cut can only be made following the regulator’s recommendations. If implemented, the proposal will help lower tariffs to Re 0.10 per minute for local calls and Re 0.25 per minute for national long distance calls by end-2010.
