The communications and IT minister, A. Raja, has ruled out a merger between Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), due to the lack of common factors between the two operators.

The communications and IT minister, A. Raja, has ruled out a merger between Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), due to the lack of common factors between the two operators. He has, however, stated that DoT is keen on listing BSNL, and has advised the company’s management board to initiate talks with its employee union for taking the company public. The union has been opposing a listing.
