The Algerian government is looking to divest stake in Algerie Telecom to a foreign company in the first half of 2008. The government will retain the majority stake. According to sources, Etisalat, France Telecom, Telefonica, Portugal Telecom and Deutsche Telekom are among the companies that are interested in the estimated $3 billion deal. The entry of a foreign telecom major is expected to lead to the adoption of new technologies at Algerie Telecom.
