Thailand-based CAT Telecom’s proposal to take full ownership of Hutchison CAT Wireless Multimedia (HCWM), its CDMA2000- based mobile JV with Hong Kong’s Hutchison Telecommunications International (HTIL), has received government approval. CAT Telecom intends to buy out HCWM for $233 million. At present, 74 per cent of the company’s stake is held by HTIL via Hutchison Wireless MultiMedia Holdings, while the remaining is held by CAT. The Thai operator runs a separate 2G/3G mobile service on its own CDMA network in 51 other provinces under the CAT CDMA brand.
