The Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Association (TEMA) has urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), telecom service providers, Internet service providers and telemarketers to collectively work towards devising a solution to curb the pesky calls menace.
To this end, TEMA has sought a freeze on unsolicited commercial communications (UCC).
TEMA also highlighted that globally the issue of UCC has been managed by coordination between the regulator and other stakeholders. A similar practice needs to adopted in India too.
On its part, TRAI has already issued a ‘do not call registry’ to combat the UCC issue. Further, back in 2017, TRAI had launched a mobile app to register ‘do not disturb’ requests. Despite these efforts, the pesky call menace has been on the rise.
