Telstra, Australia’s dominant telecommunications company, has abandoned its $3.5 billion broadband project because of a regulatory dispute. The company has dropped its plans to build a fibre optic network to boost its internet offering in the country’s five largest cities, after failing to agree with the competition regulator over what it could charge its rivals for access.
