
Telenor Pakistan has won the bid to provide subsidised telecom services in rural areas of Pakistan using funds from the Universal Service Fund (USF). As per the bid requirements, the winner is to extend its network coverage to 1,283 villages in Malakand division in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. The funds for the project will be provided by the multi-billion USF instituted within the Ministry of Information Technology through annual contributions received from telecom operators. The other mobile service operators who participated in the bidding process were Warid Telecom, CM Pak and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
