As per the District Court of Gurgaon, Telenor cannot bid for the 2G spectrum auction without association with Uninor, which is its joint venture with Unitech.

The decision came over a petition filed by Unitech against Norway-based Telenor with the District Court of Gurgaon. Unitech requested the court to restrain Telenor from participating in the forthcoming 2G spectrum auction in association with third party.

Telenor has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the court order. The District Court of Gurgaon in its decision stated that Telenor cannot participate, negotiate or show financial interest in auction processes conducted by the government for the fresh allotment of spectrum other than through Unitech Wireless. Telenor holds 67.25 per cent stake in Unitech Wireless, which operates under the brand name Uninor. Realty firm Unitech holds the remaining 32.75 per cent in the company.
