Norway-based communication company Telenor ASA has won the auction for Serbian mobile phone operator Mobi 63 for $1.92 billion. Telenor outbid Mobilkom Austria and Egypt’s Orascom Telecom at an auction. The Serbian government holds 70 per cent in Mobi 63 and a group of Austrian investors control the remaining 30 per cent. Telenor will also receive a 10-year renewable operating licence for the Serbian territory. There is only one other mobile telephony service provider in Serbia ?? the state-owned Telekom Serbia. The government has declared that following the successful sale of Mobi 63, it would not open the market for a third operator for the next two years.
