
Telekom Malaysia and other Malaysian companies plan to double their investments in Sri Lanka’s telecom sector during 2006.
Telekom would account for three-quarters of the anticipated $200 million that Malaysia will pump into the Sri Lankan telecom sector this year. In 2005, Malaysian telecom investment in Sri Lanka totalled about $100 million. The 2006 investment plans reportedly focus largely on expansion of networks, services and facilities.
Malaysian company Tritel plans to invest $40 million in Sri Lanka’s payphone network.
