As per data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the total telecom subscriber base has declined from 965.52 million in June 2012 to 944.81 million in July 2012.

The overall telecom user base of the country has declined by 20.71 million subscribers over June 2012.

The loss in subscriber base has been led by Reliance Communications. The operator lost 20.48 million users. Its total subscriber base declined from 154 million in June 2012 to 134 million in July 2011. It was followed by Tata Teleservices and Uninor, which lost over 2.4 million and one million wireless subscribers, respectively. Videocon lost 0.41 million subscribers in July 2012. Loop Mobile and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam limited lost about 0.15 million subcribers each in July 2012.

However, operators like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Aircel, Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) added new subscribers in the month of July. In the same period, Bharti Airtel acquired 1.5 million new customers. Its total subscriber base for the month stood over 188 million. For the same period Vodafone India’s subscriber base stood at 154 million with the addition of 1.2 million new users.

In July 2012, Idea Cellular and Aircel added 0.45 million and 0.28 million subscribers, respectively. SSTL and BSNL added 0.16 million and 0.47 million subscribers.
