The mobile subscriber base increased from 943.97 million as of December 2014 to 1,003.5 million as of October 2015, a growth of 7.1 per cent. During the same period, fixed line subscribers decreased from 27 million to 25.85 million, a reduction of 4.3 per cent.  Private players accounted for about 91.63 per cent of the total wireless market as of October 2015. The remaining share was held by state-run operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). In the wireline segment, BSNL and MTNL together held 73.69 per cent of the market as of October 2015, while the remaining was held by private operators.
