The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has welcomed the consultation paper issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on floor pricing.
To this end, Rajan S Mathews, director general, COAI has stated, “COAI welcomes the consultation paper issued by the telecom regulator on floor pricing. In our previous submission to TRAI, we have highlighted that tariff correction is necessary for improving the financial health of the industry. The only option available is for the regulator to intervene and correct the anomalous pricing situation prevailing in the market place.”
Further, Mathews added, “We believe that such regulation will ensure that the telecom industry remains healthy and robust, there is orderly competition and above all, the resources are available with telecom service providers to enhance quality of service and expansion of networks to achieve the vision of Digital India. It will also provide confidence to investors to make available needed resources.”
