According to a report by techARC in collaboration with the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), at present, the telecom sector is enabling around 30-35 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) amid COVID-19 crisis, other than the present 6 per cent direct contribution to the GDP.

Further, the report added that telecom leaders saluted the central and state government for providing support to the industry during the crisis.

As per COAI, with the timely intervention of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and coordination with various state and local authorities, the defunct base transceiver station (BTS) sites were brought down from 800 to 70, increasing the capacities substantially.

According to the report, the government must look into the requests of the sector empowering them to serve the customers more efficiently.
