According to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Idea Cellular, and Vodafone India have been violating radiation norms in the circle of Mumbai.
DoT has been closely monitoring telecom towers to strictly enforce revised electro magnetic radiations (EMR) norms for telecom towers. The revised radiation norms came into effect from September 1, 2012.
The operators were found violating radiation norms during random inspection of base transmitting stations (BTS) by a high level delegation of DoT officers and officials from Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell Unit. Following, the inspections, DoT called operators whose BTS sites were found violating the revised radiation norms and directed them to stop operating these sites with immediate effect.
The operators will be allowed to make their BTS sites operational once they comply with the revised EMR norms and obtain due certificate to this effect from Mumbai?s TERM Cell.
