As per industry sources, telecom infrastructure providers have been pushing for an infrastructure sharing policy to ease the financial burden of the telecom industry that is facing liquidity challenges ahead of 5G rollout.
To this end, T.R. Dua, director general, Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) has stated that enhanced form of infrastructure sharing that is active infrastructure sharing by infrastructure providers category-1 (IP-1) typically tower companies is the only way forward for the industry considering the present financial condition of telecom operators.
Further, TAIPA has written to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in January 2021, urging for implementation of the active infrastructure sharing policy without any licencing of such players.
