Telecom companies have begun providing feedback on the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India?s (TRAI) consultation paper on auctioning spectrum.

Net, net, most operators have requested that the reserve price be set between Rs 16.58 billion and Rs 35 billion in the upcoming 2G auctions.

Moreover, operators facing licence cancellation as per the Supreme Court?s verdict in the 2G spectrum case have asked the regulator to fix the base price of 6.2 units of 2G spectrum on a pan-India basis at Rs 16.58 billion.

In fact, these operators have been reiterating that the auction process should be a multi-tiered one, where the first phase is restricted to companies facing licence cancellation.

Meanwhile, Reliance Communications has reportedly suggested that the spectrum price be fixed between Rs 18 billion and Rs 21 billion, while Vodafone India and Telenor have suggested fixing it at Rs 35 billion.

Bharti Airtel has endorsed one of the methods suggested by TRAI, which entails considering the price discovered in 2001 and indexing the same for inflation and cost of money against a prime lending rate of the State Bank of India at around 12 per cent.
