tele.net is going to organise a one-day conference on March 20, 2013, on ?Road Ahead For Indian Telecom: Outlook on Competition, Regulation, Growth and Profitability.? The conference will be held at The Grand, New Delhi.
The past one year has been very challenging for the Indian telecom sector. The cancellation of telecom licences by the Supreme Court, high spectrum prices, policy/regulatory uncertainty and sluggish growth in subscriber numbers have all had an adverse impact on the financial performance of telecom operators.
The competitive landscape of the industry has undergone a change as well, as several operators have exited the market after the licence cancellations. The industry dynamics may further change post the next round of 2G spectrum auctions. Meanwhile, the industry is trying to arrest the decline in average revenue per user and improve margins. Telecom operators have increased voice tariffs and the same is likely to happen for data tariffs as well.
The industry is also attempting to reduce costs by increasing the scale of infrastructure sharing. The latest effort in this regard is Bharti Airtel?s proposal to share the fixed line and DSL broadband network with other operators.
But what is most needed for continued growth in the Indian telecom sector is more clarity, certainty, and predictability on the policy and regulatory fronts. The manner of implementation of the National Telecommunications Policy, 2012 will be particularly important. Over the next year or two, the industry is likely to have a new set of growth drivers, a changed competitive landscape and a modified regulatory framework. In sum, the mission of this conference is to examine the impact of these factors on the Indian telecom market.
The key sessions of the conference include-Player Perspective, Competitive Landscape: Key Trends and Operator Strategies, Policy Landscape: Recent Developments and Future Outlook, 3G: Lessons Learnt And Future Strategies, Focus on LTE, Operator Profitability: Strategies To Improve Margins and Trends In Tariffs and Pricing.
