A two-day conference starting September 19, 2011 on ?Energy Needs of the Telecom Sector: Managing Costs: Approaches, Options and Innovations” has been organised by tele.net at The Imperial, New Delhi.
Energy cost is one of the biggest items of expenditure for telecom network operators. The spending on power and fuel comprises 10-12 per cent of total operating expenses and 25-30 per cent of network operating expenses. For infrastructure providers, the proportion is even higher, at more than 50 per cent of operating expenses.
Yet, till a few years ago, the industry had not focused its attention on energy costs ? either the rising trend or the potential for greater efficiency.
This is changing now. With network expansion in rural areas, increase in competition and falling ARPUs, telecom operators and infrastructure providers are beginning to pay this issue the attention it deserves.
It is the second annual conference on the subject. Key sessions of the conference include -Energy Consumption In Telecom: Trends And Outlook; Industry Perspective; Grid Power: Availability And Tariffs; Focus On Batteries; Fuel Outlook: Demand, Supply, And Price; Energy Management: Approaches And Strategies; Network Technology, Equipment And Energy Efficiency; DG Sets: Economics And Efficiency; New ideas: Shelters, ACs and Beyond and Focus On Renewables.
