As per industry sources, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited are considering rolling out cells on wheels (CoWs) to reduce network congestion caused by an upsurge in home internet and video services consumption because of lockdowns initiated to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
To this end, the telcos will soon seek approvals from local authorities so as to expedite the deployment of CoWs.
Further, as per Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the telcos are awaiting clearance from Department of Telecommunication (DoT) towards their additional spectrum requests before setting up the CoWs.
