Telecom companies, network providers, and chip makers have opposed the government’s proposed decision to show TV content directly on mobile phones without data connections. According to the industry, the technology is still in its nascent stage.

As per industry experts, the move is expected to result in telcos losing heavily on their data revenue. The chip makers may also face supply constraints due to this move. Moreover, the move is also likely to make smartphones in India costlier by at least Rs 2,500.

Furthermore, as per hardware makers, there will be problems with rolling out the service.

Several stakeholders, including the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), recently submitted their comments to the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC). The government has yet to make decision on them.
