As per a recent announcement made in the Lok Sabha, the government has received Rs 158.96 billion from telecom companies in payment towards their adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. Consequently, the remaining dues yet to be paid to the government sum up to Rs 1.3 trillion.

However, as per industry calculation, this figure does not reflect the latest tranche of payment made by Bharti Airtel on February 29, 2020.

Further, the government also clarified that as of yet no plan has been proposed for future development in the telecom sector in view of the huge AGR fees required to be paid by telcos.
