Telecom operators, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, have approached the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) seeking extension in the deadline to submit data on recharge pattern of prepaid users amid the lockdown.

To this end, the telecom operators have sought time till April 20, 2020. As per the telcos assimilating information would require additional time given the ongoing lockdown.

Earlier this week, the TRAI had asked all telecom operators to provide data on recharge patterns of prepaid users during the lockdown, and other related information. To this end, telcos have to provide the data of users provided with additional talk-time of Rs 10 and validity extension amid lockdown. Further, TRAI had asked telcos for data on number of prepaid subscribers whose balance got exhausted and was not recharged on their own between midnight of March 24, 2020 and midnight of April 13, 2020. Telcos were also directed to specify the percentage of such subscribers in terms of total number of prepaid subscribers as on March 24, 2020 midnight.

TRAI had sought these details in 24 hours on March 24, 2020. However, the telcos have sought an extension arguing that the timeline provided is short given the amount of information to be collected.
