With outstanding phone bill payments rising, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) – which provides essential network services to the government of Telangana – urging the clearance of overdue amounts slightly exceeding Rs 1.1 billion, state government departments that have accumulated dues have been reminded to make the necessary payments.

A reminder was issued last week by the state Information Technology (IT), Electronics and Communication department requesting all department heads and corporations under them to release their pending payments to BSNL, noting the critical nature of communication infrastructure.

Further, the notice detailed the dues owed by various departments and government bodies. Of these, Telangana state wide area network (TSWAN) had the highest pending amount of Rs 0.93 billion. Meanwhile, five other departments are municipal administration, IT, Meeseva, human resource development, and the police department which had outstanding dues ranging between Rs 10 million to Rs 30 million.

Moreover, the TSWAN website states that it is integrated with the Telangana secretariat campus area network (TSCAN), state data centre (SDC) and the National knowledge network (NKN), providing secure network services. It also supports a centralised service desk, a 24×7 network operating centre, and connectivity for over 46 departments, 101 sub-departments, various citizen services, and video conferencing facilities across district and mandal headquarters.

Meanwhile, the smallest pending bill to BSNL was from the Gayatri Cooperative Urban Bank Limited under the finance ministry, which owed Rs 143.

The previous reminder for clearing BSNL dues was received by the state government in August, when the secretary, Department of Telecommunications, stated that as of July 31, 2025, a total of Rs 1.1 billion was outstanding from the government of Telangana.
