The Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) has notified some telecom products to be put under mandatory testing regime under phase – II, starting October 1, 2020.

Such telecom products include transmission terminal gear including multiplexing equipment, passive optical network (PON) broadband equipment and feedback device.

TEC has also announced that the applications for mandatory testing would be accepted through online channel and starting October 2020, the sale, import or use of such products would require certification.

Lauding TEC’s decision, the Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Association (TEMA) noted that now all such equipments would need to be tested within India by a TEC recognised lab. Further, the EMC & safety tests would need to be conducted within country by approved labs, though for others ILAC approved tests would be accepted till September 30, 2020.

TEMA also pointed out that at present, there are about 50 labs in India approved by TEC.
