The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) has brought 37 more products under the Simplified Certification Scheme (SCS) with effect from January 1, 2024, in efforts to reduce time taken for certification from eight weeks to two weeks, and to enhance ease of doing business.
These products include media gateway, internet protocol (IP) security equipment, IP terminals, optical fibre or cable, transmission terminal equipment, etc. With this, the total products under SCS have now increased to 49 from 12.
In addition, the evaluation fee has been completely waived to offer relief to the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or applicants. The application fee is reduced by more than 80 per cent which will further reduce the compliance burden.
Presently, there are 60 telecom and networking products that have been notified under the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE) regime.
