The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has reproached Mahanagar telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) for deducting dues from Tata Communications while the issue was still unresolved, say news reports
TDSAT also dismissed MTNL’s claim that it was well within its rights to deduct dues from Tata Communications as the money owed by the company was public money and its recovery should not have been delayed.
The dispute between MTNL and Tata Communications arose on account of a dispute over an agreement between the two for international long distance services in Mumbai and Delhi. Tata Communications had approached TDSAT, seeking recovery of Rs 8.8 million from MTNL. While Tata Communications’ petition was pending, MTNL deducted Rs 8.8 million dues from the company based on the demand notices issued in June 2012.
