In continuation of the subscriber verification issue, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has barred the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) from taking measures against Bharti Airtel.

Prior to this, as per news reports, DoT had imposed a Rs 1.11 billion penalty on Bharti Airtel for failing to disconnect mobile connections with poorly filled customer application forms.

Thereafter, DoT imposed an additional penalty of Rs 369.4 million on the company. Bharti Airtel then approached the TDSAT in this regard, which has asked it to pay 25 per cent of the penalty and has reserved its order in the case as of now.
