The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has asked Bharti Airtel and Tata Communications to each pay 10 per cent of the Rs 500 million penalty imposed on them by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for violation of ILD licence terms and conditions.

Passing an interim order, TDSAT asked the operators to pay Rs 50 million each to DoT within two weeks.

DoT had imposed the penalty on them for providing international private lease circuits to foreign company SingTel, allegedly violating the terms and conditions of the ILD licence.

DoT had established a committee to examine the case and to suggest the amount of penalty to be imposed on the operators.
