Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is partnering with Tata Electronics Private Limited as the conglomerate aims to launch India’s first domestically produced chip by 2026.

Earlier in February 2024, the India Semiconductor Mission approved the establishment of three semiconductor manufacturing facilities to boost this sector, with Tata Electronics leading the development of two projects.

One project is an $11 billion greenfield chip manufacturing plant in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor (PSMC) located in Dholera, Gujarat, which will initially produce 50,000 wafers per month. The second project is a $3.26 billion facility in Assam, focusing on chip assembly and testing.

Tata Electronics plans to have the first chips from the Assam facility ready by late 2025 or early 2026, targeting industries such as automotive, electronics, power, consumer goods, and healthcare.
