The Government of Karnataka together with Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and MMP Mobi Wallet Systems Limited (MMPL) will provide mobile governance services in the state.
MMPL?s ?mRupee?, a prepaid wallet service will allow the users to pay for the mGovernance services that they utilize. The users will be able to pay their water bills, electricity bills, traffic challans through mobile payments. TTSL is also providing USSD connectivity to users to help them access this service. With mRupee one can also pay other bills like Tata DoCoMo postpaid bills and prepaid recharges, or transfer money to another mRupee user or any bank account in India.
Commenting on the association, ISN Prasad, principal secretary, Government of Karnataka, says, ?As part of phase one of the project, the services would be enabled across multiple access channels like USSD, voice and mobile web to cover the entire range of phones, from a basic to an advanced smartphone. Our association with Tata Teleservices will allow us to enable payments over a prepaid mobile wallet, apart from the other traditional payment instruments, which is vital in ensuring a wide adoption of the service.?
The mRupee service will be rolled out in Bangalore in Phase I, followed by a phased launch across the rest of Karnataka. To enroll for the mRupee services, users need to get in touch with mRupee agents in the city and complete a one time registration process and have to load the money in their account. The customers have to generate a one time password (OTP) by dialing 0922225111 or 51111 (for TATA DOCOMO Customers) which would enable them to pay for the mGovernance services.
