Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing, Cyient Semiconductors and Applied Materials have emerged as the lowest bidders for three key packages under the project to upgrade the state-run chipmaker’s wafer fabrication facility, by the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali.
The government expects the Rs 45 billion modernisation effort to strengthen SCL’s position in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. Electronics and information technology minister reaffirmed that the country’s only public sector semiconductor facility will continue to operate under full government ownership.
Additionally, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test (TSAT) has emerged as the L1 bidder for package 1, which involves augmenting the 8-inch CMOS wafer fabrication plant at SCL.
For package 2, which pertains to the supply and qualification of technology IP, Hyderabad-based Cyient Semiconductors has been identified as the lowest bidder.
Moreover, the third package, covering the supply and deployment of manufacturing execution system software along with equipment automation has seen Singapore-based Applied Materials South East Asia emerge as the L1 bidder. Applied Materials declined to comment.
All three companies have emerged as the lowest evaluated bidders based on their financial proposals and compliance with tender requirements, and SCL has indicated they will be invited for further negotiations before the final award of the contract.
