South Africa’s second fixed line operator Neotel, in which Tata Communications has majority stake, has acquired next-generation service provider Transtel Telecom for Rs 1.2 billion. The acquisition provides Tata Communications with a platform for introducing next-generation services for enterprises and gaining a countrywide presence in South Africa. Transtel, whose annual revenues are over Rs 3.5 billion, has telecom infrastructure across the country, connecting every railway line, pipeline, harbour and airport. The deal is estimated to increase Neotel’s annual revenues by Rs 3 billion.
