
Australia-based Telstra has signed a network-to-network interconnections (NNI) agreement with Tata Communications to expand its footprints in India. As per the NNI terms, Telestrawill use Tata Communications? 116 points of presence (PoPs), extending Telstra?s reach to tier-2 and tier-3 Indian cities such as Jaipur, Surat and Trichy. The deal also allows for use of Tata Communications? domestic infrastructure and global sub-sea fibre network.
This deal comes as Telstra?s customers – large multinational companies are expanding across Asia. With this deal, Telestra will be able to leverage Tata Communications? network to extend its service coverage throughout India. The arrangement is also part of Telstra?s broader multi-protocol label switching strategy, which includes NNI agreements in emerging markets that are of high value to customers and the expansion of its own on-net PoPs.
