Taiwan’s VMAX Telecom has chosen Wi-Max equipment vendor Alvarion for deploying its wireless broadband network. The 2.5 GHz mobile Wi-Max rollout will begin in Taoyuan and Hsinchu counties. The network will enable VMAX Telecom to provide wireless IP services such as voice, data, video and gaming to its subscribers. VMAX was one of three firms to be awarded 2.5 GHz spectrum licences for northern Taiwan in July 2007.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that some of Taiwan’s Wi-Max licensees are postponing the launch of services due to difficulty in raising funds. The Global Mobile Corporation expects to begin operations in July 2009, while Far EasTone, which had planned to launch services in 2008, is now looking at the second half of 2009.
