The Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) has requested various state governments to reduce the electricity tariffs levied by them in view of the prevailing situation.

To this end, TAIPA has written to chief secretaries of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan urging them to reduce the current electricity tariff.

TAIPA also mentioned that Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission has already reduced the tariff by 10-15 per cent to provide a boost to industrial and commercial sectors. The state commission had also introduced bulk supply discount of 1-2 per cent on energy charges. It is also providing incentives such as load factor discount, prompt payment discount and the night usage rebate among others.

TAIPA has urged other regulatory commissions and electricity boards to also undertake similar initiatives.
