According to a report by Global Mobile suppliers Association (GSA), the sustained investment and deployment in the 5G technology has resulted in the commercial availability of more than 85 live 5G networks and 300 devices.

The report noted that by mid-December 2020, 412 operators in 131 countries/territories were investing in 5G and at present there are 806 public LTE networks. As such, 5G services have being launched in all regions, including 85 networks in EMEA, 35 in APAC, and 15 in the Americas.

The report noted that out of 185 private network deployments, 65 per cent are using LTE, 28 per cent are on 5G, while the remaining 7 per cent are using a blend of LTE and 5G, both.

Further, as per the report, around 85 licenses have been issued for mmWave at 26/28GHz across the world. Of these, at least 24 have been either deployed or are in the process of being deployed.

GSA also noted that going forward, the 700Mhz spectrum is also expected to gain momentum with 36 auctions/assignments expected by the end of 2022. Further, spectrum auction and related activities will soon pick up the pace with over 75 auctions/assignments underway or expected by the end of 2022.

Moreover, as per GSA estimates, there will be over 500 commercial devices by the end of 2021.
