Surajit Khan, Business Director, Maxeed, a division of Quess Corp Limited
In a career spanning over two decades, Surajit Khan has been associated with various companies across a diverse set of sectors including telecom, education, clean energy and conventional power. In the telecom sector, he has worked with large infrastructure companies including Viom, Bharti Infratel and Essential Energy India, before joining Quess Corp Limited’s Maxeed division as business director.
Maxeed is involved in the installation and commissioning of equipment in the active and passive telecom spaces. As business director of the company, Khan is involved in creating an agile and diversified workforce that is capable of addressing the demands of the telecom sector. According to Khan, “There is a constant evolution across the telecom value chain in India. The immediate areas of focus are infrastructure upgradation and adoption of new technologies to ensure data growth takes place as per expectations across the country.” He believes that the telecom sector will go through further consolidation in the coming years. “The internet of things will be another space where operators will look for new business opportunities,” he adds.
When asked about his most memorable assignment, he recalls the one that involved creating an in-house team for a telecom infrastructure management company. “The project required forming teams across various circles and bringing in a set of compliances that would need to be followed during the process of tower installation. It was challenging to create a standard operating procedure adaptable by each state, with uniform adherence to quality and project management standards in every circle. However, my experience helped me and I was able to deliver on expectations while ensuring quality and timely delivery of the project,” he says.
Khan is a strong believer in interpersonal skills and situational leadership. “These qualities have helped me to remain focused, committed and passionate about any work assignments. This also drive the team to set new benchmarks in meeting customers’ ever demanding needs,” he says.
Khan is a mechanical engineer from Jadavpur University and also has a postgraduate degree in management from IIM Lucknow. He unwinds by playing football and reading; he also enjoys marathons. His wife is a teacher and a professional Rabindra Sangeet singer. They have a son, who is an eleventh grader with a passion for painting and music.
