Industry stakeholders continue to debate on the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India?s (TRAI) recommendations on The Auction of Spectrum, say news reports.

Now, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has raised an issue regarding the spectrum held by Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL), a dual technology player. Interestingly, TRAI?s recommendations do not mention the spectrum held by the operator.

COAI is of the view that the Supreme Court order dated February 2, 2012 cancelling 122 telecom licences and spectrum issued after 2008 applies to TTSL as well.

So, the industry body has asked Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Finance who is heading the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), to cancel the GSM spectrum held by the operator.

Meanwhile, reacting to COAI?s statements, TTSL has said that the industry body?s views are devoid of any merit and that COAI?s earlier demands regarding dual-technology spectrum have been rejected by both the Delhi High Court and the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).
