The Supreme Court (SC) has asked WhatsApp to file its response on a recent plea seeking direction for framing regulation to ensure the safety of data collected on unified payments interface (UPI) platforms.

The plea sought a direction to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for ensuring that data collected on UPI platforms is not shared with their parent company or any other third party under any circumstances.

According to bench of Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, if WhatsApp does not file its reply, then the averment made in the petition filed will be taken as accepted.
