Sunit Kumar Singh
General Manager and Head of ESS Engineering, Exicom
Sunit Kumar Singh has around 20 years of experience in the telecom power, energy products, solutions design and development domains. He is currently working with Exicom Tele Systems Limited as general manager and head of energy storage systems (ESS) engineering. In this role, he is responsible for the design and development of power backup and energy storage products based on advanced battery technologies such as lithium-ion for telecom power and data centre backup, and battery ESS (BESS) in the control and instrumentation (C&I) segment. Further, he handles techno-commercial negotiations with suppliers, collaboration with global technology partners, technical discussions with customers to understand their requirements and local manufacturing of products.
He has been associated with Exicom for over 14 years. His expertise lies in integrated power management systems for telecom, BESS and lithium-ion batteries for different applications in the telecom and data centre domains. Prior to this, he worked with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited for five years. Singh believes that the telecom sector has immense growth potential. The growth drivers are penetration in uncovered terrain, increasing consumption of data, 5G expansion, and emerging technologies such as internet of things and artificial intelligence. “Being a major supplier of power and energy storage solutions to telecom infrastructure and operator companies, we see a lot of business opportunities in the telecom sector. Our vision is to make the planet greener and more sustainable by delivering energy efficient products and solutions,” he says.
His most memorable assignments include the in-house design and development of lithium-ion battery packs and the setting up of a manufacturing plant in India for Exicom’s telecom applications.
Singh believes that his main strength lies in his eagerness to work on new technologies. In terms of management style, he is focused on products and people. “I like to focus on timely delivery of technologically advanced and reliable products and solutions. To achieve this, I try to develop a sense of ownership in team members, give them space to develop their ideas, provide the required support and encourage them to give their best,” he says.
Singh has a B.Tech degree in electronics and communications from UP Technical University, and a certification in
Advanced Battery Chemistry from IIT Delhi.
When not working, Singh likes to spend time with his family and friends. He also likes to follow and play sports. His family comprises his parents, his wife and their two sons.
