BT Group announced that Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder and chairman, Bharti Enterprises, and Gopal Vittal, vice chairman and managing director, Bharti Airtel, have joined its board as non-independent non-executive directors with immediate effect.
The appointments follow Bharti’s acquisition of a 24.5 per cent stake in BT Group in 2024 for about $4 billion, making Mittal’s conglomerate the single-largest shareholder in the UK’s largest broadband and mobile company.
Mittal and Vittal have joined the board as nominated representatives of Bharti Televentures UK Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Global, under a “relationship agreement.” Mittal will also serve on BT’s nominations committee.
