Sterlite Technology Limited is planning to expand its presence in retail Internet business to 10 cities by end-2015. The company intends to extend its services to Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi and Chandigarh. At present, it has presence in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR, Bangaluru, Chennai and Ahmedabad.
Also, the company is planning to provide fibre connectivity to one million households by 2017, which will enable provisioning a speed of 100 mbps.
Sterlite Technologies believes that the retail Internet business has good potential as there is a huge untapped market in the country. According to the company, there are around 5-8 million households in top 10 cities which require high speed Internet services.
