Sterlite Technologies has launched a Wi-Fi roaming solution that enables communication service providers to offer Wi-Fi roaming plans to subscribers. Designed and based on the wireless roaming intermediary eXchange (WRIX) architecture, the solution can handle centralised authentication of roaming subscribers and manage partnership scenarios. It is interoperable with global roaming service providers and supports various roaming standards including SIGTRAN and AAA proxy. Furthermore, operators can overcome the challenges of lack of standard roaming agreements and device standards, inconsistent user experience, irregular cost of roaming, difficulty in authentication and 3G/4G/LTE Wi-Fi interworking, and lack of monetisation models and techniques. Wi-Fi roaming enables users to seamlessly connect to Wi-Fi hotspots without having to repeatedly log in. This can be achieved through automated Wi-Fi connectivity by using SIM card credentials for authentication. Users find it more useful to access Wi-Fi hotspots of other networks than consume high-cost 3G or 4G networks while travelling.
