Sterlite Networks, a fully owned subsidiary of Sterlite Technologies, is pulling out all the stops to enhance its footprint in the country.
As per news reports, the company aims to connect 150,000 homes with fibre by March 2014 as a part of Proof of Concept (POC).
According to company officials, under the proof of concept, the company has connected close to 100,000 homes in Ghaziabad and Noida), Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, and Bangalore.
This network is reportedly catering to 20,000 customers of various operators including Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices Limited, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Spectranet. In fact, the company has also rolled out this infrastructure in Ahmedabad, for enterprise customers.
In a nutshell, the company has created a data pipe to support IP-based services. Going forward, the company says that the infrastructure can be used to provide value added services such as video-on-demand, surveillance, cloud-based online gaming, e-governance and e-education.
