Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) which operates under the MTS brand has announced net-neutral internet calling plans for both prepaid and post paid customers. Under these plans, the customers can use the data for making internet calls using any internet calling application of their choice such as WhatsApp, Skype and Viber.

The MTS prepaid customers will get 5 GB data for Rs 499 in which the users can opt to use this data for 5,000 minutes of internet calls. The post paid customers can opt for rental plans starting from Rs 599. The plans can also be used for normal browsing and streaming along with internet calls. MTS, however, aims to use these new plans to encourage the use of data for making internet calls.

Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is expected to soon release its report on the issue of net neutrality. Earlier, a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) panel had issued a report on the issue, suggesting regulation of domestic calls on internet-based apps such as Skype, Whatsapp and Viber to put them on par with the voice services offered by the operators.
