Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) has requested the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to extend the deadline for submitting applications for the forthcoming spectrum auction, say news reports.
DoT has set October 19, 2012 as the last date for the same.
SSTL has approached DoT for extending the deadline in view of a curative petition pending before the Supreme Court. In the petition, SSTL has challenged the court’s earlier decision of cancelling all the licences issued on or after January 10, 2008. According to SSTL, its licences should not be cancelled because it was the sole bidder for CDMA spectrum. Also, SSTL says that it should not suffer collateral damage simply because there have been claims of impropriety in awarding GSM spectrum.
SSTL wants to await the Supreme Court’s judgment on its curative petition before deciding whether to participate in the auction.
