Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) is looking at achieving a breakeven in the Kolkata and West Bengal circles in mid-2014. The operator is expecting significant growth in data usage to achieve the breakeven.
SSTL started operating in the Kolkata and West Bengal circles in 2009 and during the last year witnessed a 100 per cent growth in the data segment. At present, the Kolkata and West Bengal circles account for 2.7 billion subscribers for SSTL in the voice segment. In addition, the operator has 1.5 million data users in the two regions.
In order to strengthen its position, SSTL is investing to set up new infrastructure in these markets. The company is looking to increase the bandwidth capacity by about 50 per cent with 3.75 MHz of spectrum. The increased bandwidth is expected to support new customers and ensure better penetration across towns in West Bengal.
